first of all we have a 1999 7.3 powerstoke, i know that diesel engines dont use spark plugs... i have been told they have glow plugs. Around how often should they be changed it has 159,528 miles now.

the only thing glow plugs do is make it start easier. if it is starting good then they are okay. how does it start when its cold out?

Being in the South, you can probably get by without replacing them for quite a while. It's not a very difficult job (but it will become one if a plug snaps off in the head or falls in the cylinder) but quite time consuming. If it gets hard to start in the morning, just plug it up a few hours before you leave and REMEMBER TO UNPLUG THE EXTENSION CORD!!! But these heaters pull right at 1000 watts, so I like to put a timer on mine. Just make sure its rated over 1000 watts/ 8 or 10 amps, I can't remember exactly.

like its been said, you change them when they fail.  It can be a PITA when they snap off in the head. If you wanna be safe put the liabilty on somebody else.

O and dont EVER use ether. if you do I will personally drive to georgia to kick you in the berries.
