Does anybody know how hard it is it to take the shaft out?  Does it have grease in it just like the cvs? My boot is ripped.

It's easy.  You can take the front differential bolts out and slide the front diff forward.  The way I do it is take the short bolts that hold the diff out, loosen the long one, and pry the front differential straight up.  I can have that driveshaft out in 12 or 15 minutes.

I don't think you can change the boot though. Or can you? Not sure if the CV comes off the shaft.

I'm not sure of that either.  I know you can't buy the joint but not sure about the boot.

So I can just pull the front diff mount bolts out and that will give enough movement to slide it forward and get the driveshaft out?  My warranty expires soon and I want to get a new shaft while i still can.

So your wanting to replace the boot before you take it in for warranty? If thats the case find an automotive axle repair shop, take them the old boot. YAMAHA does not make the boot therefor someone should be able to find it. there is a code on the side of most boots that you can match up.  Yes you can take it apart.

the engine side has a snap ring on the shaft so you need to put the shaft in a vise and use a punch to hammer the internal part of the cv off the shaft. the part # on the front cv is 789-66 and its made by NTN but I couldnt find anything on line. like I said, goto a cv shop.

Call turner and talk to them about the custom mod they do to the grizz front drive shaft.  they can explain it way better than I ever could but I will say this, for almost the same money as a new drive shaft, I sent them my old one and they worked on it, sent it back, and havent had a problem out of it since.

I got a used one from a friend and got it put in saturday.  It seems to be fine now.  I may send my old one off later to someone to beef up because it isnt broken just got a busted boot.

My boots are fine, but the axle stub is wearing out at the tranny end.  I was driving around slowly in the driveway with the side panels removed and it wobbles very bad.  I can wiggle it around with my hand also.  I want to get the shaft warranted before it expires.
