ok so i bought my HID kit to put on my 420 today and im lookin for some advise from some of you guys that have already done this or that can help me out. i read on here that someone else did this and used a 9006 buld and slightly modified the base of the bulb. well i have the 9006s which are quiet a bit larger than the stock bulbs but i can prolly make it work. my biggest problem/question is about my connector. the 9006 bulb has a large 2 terminal connector and the connector for the bulb is a small 3 terminal connector. is one of these extra wires for the high beams?? will i have to cut my harnesses and splice them together?? any advise is greatly appreciated

hey guys sorry about not posting pics, its very simple to do with a 9006 bulb, the base of the bulb wont look pretty but it fits in the housing and twists is tight, there is a slight gap that you will have on the housing to the base of the bulb but a little silicone works wonders, ive submerge mine all the time and have had no leaks or condensation whats so ever.i actually changed my 12k bulbs to 10k last week, the 12k where WAY to purple(or as my group says pink)the 10k are perfect,a arctic blue color very good looking.IMO.I do promise i will post pictures on how to modify the bulb,i will take pictures of the stock bulb VS the modified bulb and show you where to cut, only tool needed will be a dremel ,and siliconeif its done correctly and with patience ,it will turn out perfect.

will post pictures tommaro.

thanks for the response man but the biggest problem just from looking so far is the wiring. what did you do to make the different connectors work??

08ranch , Did you buy the actual HID kit with ballasts and bulbs?or did you just buy bulbs from an autoparts store?the hid bulb connects to the ballast connectors with no issues, then you simply tap the positive and negative wires from the ballast into the positive and negative wires from each side of your original headlight connector, use a ohm meter to find the power and negative on each side b/c both are different ,BUT you must use HIGH BEAM the low beam does not draw enough power to power up the ballast.after its all said and done you will have to lower the headlight beam with the adjustment screw so there not pointing to high.

yea i got the whole kit, ballasts bulbs and all. thanks thats exactly what i was wanting to know. i didnt know if i needed to cut and splice or if you found some other way to hook it up. i ask this b/c it is one of the plug n play kits not one where you have to do any splicing. thanks again

yea from my understanding, you will have a wire "left over" which would be the low beams.
pics when you are done please!!

For starters I didn’t read the whole thing, From my experience with HID conversion It does not matter if you hook it up on the low beam or high beam WHY???? Because the bulb is a low beam only that’s why. TOP END HID kits do sell hid bulbs that have duel filament that has both low and high in a single bulb but they are not cheap. Also if you do hook it up in the high beam circuit it will shine brighter because I THINK<<< key word here...The Ballast the squire box amplifies more in the high beam circuit so its more brighter then low beam circuit I know this first hand and done a lot of HID install. Hope this help. Also forgot to add but similar to what I wrote on top, just because you install it on the High beam circuit does not mean it will shine at a high beam level because the HID bulb is a low beam bulb not a High beam bulb so you don’t have to adjust your lamp on your ATV or vehicle.

First off, HID bulbs do not have a filliment, no true hid will have one. The light from an hid bulb is generated by an electrical arc. with a GOOD quality ballast (i.e, not what is in most plug and play kits) will maintain there output with small changes in voltage. A good ballast has a microprossesor based power supply that over drives the bulb on warmup, then lowers the output to a nominal 35watts. a ballast also trys to maintain the same light output as the bulb ages.
in cars the hi/low function is done by droping a mechanical shutter out of the way allowing more light to escape from the houseing the power is still at 35 watts, some systems even move the bulb in the reflector to change the beam pattren for hi mode.
This is a pic of a spot light i converted to hid to show the inner tube where the arc operates. , I modded my center lamp with a cheap HID kit but i replaced both headlights with Hella micro DE hid projector assamblies Also for the most light avaliable go with a 4200-4300k ish lamp they are more effectent

my quad with all three running, I made a bracket that sits under the hood to hold the ballasts this is what the hella de look like, they fit right in where the stock headlights used to live

I forgot to mention, avoid splicing or cutting the wires/cable that goes from the ballast and/or starter( if external )to the bulb. that cable needs to withstand the 23kv+ starting pulse.(assuming the stater is internal. if its external then the cable from the starter to bulb carries the high voltage starting pulses) at running ,the voltage is around 80 volts give or take a few. extending the length of the output wires can some times cause problems even if high voltage wire is used. it's best to keep that wire/cable stock
