I got a 2000 Silverado 4x4 with a 4.3 liter in it. When the motor is cold (sits over night) and i go start it, it starts and when i slowly apply gas it starts to miss and sputter. While its still cold i cna unplug the TPS sensor and BAM runs like it should. Plug it back in and runs like crap again. When the engine is at full  temperature it runs fine. no prob even with the tps plugged in. Ive repaced the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, tps sensor and map sensor. i cant figure it out. any ideas? If i plug my scanner it says random/ multiple misfire. I wanna know why it runs better with the tps unplugged and the prob goes away when the engine warms completely up. any ideas?

check the piece in the distributor that the rotor bolts to see if its bent and check the distributor bushings those sfi style distibutors wear  out fairly quick if its not that check your fuel pump pressure thats all that it could be throwing the random misfire code

Coolant temp sensor, and also they had big problems with the dist caps, rotors and even the distributors themselves in those motors. There is a bulliten for a random misfire and poor driveability on the 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, and I think even the 7.4s that says basically to replace the dist cap, rotor, and inspect the dist base for a pair of small screens that are in the vent holes, if the screens are still in place then you need to take them out, and also to sheild or insulate the a/c hose that runs over the dist. If the missfire did not go away then you needed to replace the dist. What was happening was dust, dirt, and corrosion was clogging up those screens and causing condensation to stay in the distributor and cause carbon traking in the cap and rotor, this problem was intensified on the 4.3 trucks because there is an a/c hose that runs right over top of the dist cap and can drip onto the cap causing even more corrosion. If it got bad enough then it could also cause the dist itself to be ruined. I have replaced too many distributors to count but haven't done one in a while I kinda got the feeling maybe they had all been replaced already lol. If you don't see any signs of corrosion in the base of the distributor then I would for sure check the fuel psi, they also had MAJOR issues with the fuel sender modules (pump and level sensor assy) in these trucks as well. Being a 4.3 you still have a Injector Spider assy in the intake plenum that is known for leaking fuel psi regulators, and also the injectors themselves going bad that is another possibility. I am thinking maybe when you are unplugging the tps it is going into a "base mode" or a "limp mode" which could explain why that has something to do with the way it runs.
