I want to know if anyone else has had this problem on there sportsman. I had just replaced a ecm on a 04 1/2 sportsman 500 because it had a battery draw & it also flashed the hot light on the pod all the time but the fan worked fine. After I changed it, it started to stall out at any time, seemed to be worse when hot. It would allways restart but sometimes it took a while. It could stall out so many times that you couldnt ride it 20 feet without it stalling at least once. I did some testing & found that when it stalls it looses spark. Did more testing & found when it did die there was no pulse from the CDI to the coil, so its not the coil! Did more testing & found powers & grounds are good to the CDI. I measured the resistance of the pick up at the CDI conector & it was allways at 222ohms & I tryed testing as soon as it stalled & it was allways 222 but as soon as I pluged it in it would start so I dont know for sure its the CDI. I allso tested the throttle switch & its open all the time, wires are ok I dont think this could cause the stalling. Any suggestins?

Check the routing of the spark plug wire, there was an issue, some were improperly routed between the gas tank and the frame, shorting out the wire.

the pick up or trigger coil on the stator is suppose to measure 97ohms +/- 20%.  you should try replacing the trigger coil. they sell it by itself.

Thats what I was trying to find out. Can you get a oem trigger coil by itself, or only aftermarket?
