is it possible to convert the drum brakes to disc brakes on my 1997 bigbear?   if so is it worth it?  and how much trouble is it?

I don't know why you couldn't make it happen. In '99 they went to disc brakes up front on the big bear. If you could find someone parting out a '99 you might could snag up the hubs, rotors, calipers (even calipers from other yamahas will work), & knuckles .. that's the route I went with the disc brake conversion on my '97 Kodiak. I think I ended giving a lil over $100 for all of my parts.

Old Skool ('97) Yamaha Kodiyakyak ... thought it was used, turned out to be abused!!
27 in. 589's, ITP type 4 rims, 2 in. lift, snorkeled, DG muffler, K&N, rejetted (115 main), DG bumper, temp gauge, EPI perf. clutch kit, relocated oil cooler & fan, custom front disc brake conversion, fresh top end rebuild with 85mm BBK (10.5:1 CR) from JE, 88 grind webcam w/tit. retainers & all the fixins !! ...never finished ....

Are you talking about fronts or rear?
If your talking about the front: You can do as DennyB said
If your talking about the rear: I have seen people buy or find the parts off of a wolverine and convert the rear to disc( I plan to do this in the future)

yes  i want to convert front and rear to disc brakes if i can and it doesnt cost a fortune
