I was going to buy a set of 27" Swamplites for my Rincon, , and was wondering what is the advantage or disavantages to the 12 or 14 inch wheel sizes,, I was going to go with the ss212 rims, just hadn't decided what size 12 or 14,, thanks,

What are the advantages of 12" diameter wheels versus 14" diameter wheels?

Advantages with the 12" wheels:

  • Traditional wheel size that most tire sizes will fit.
  • Are less susceptible to damage, especially in rocky terrain.
  • Are lighter weight than a 14" tire/wheel combination.

Advantages with the 14" wheels:

  • Offer better steering response and corner handling due to less tire roll in sidewall of the tire.
  • Are a larger diameter wheel, which many people think look better on a machine, especially with larger tire sizes.
  • Are the latest trend in ATV wheels.

Also with disc brakes and 14" wheels you dont have to worry about get rocks and debris caught damaging the rim when 12" wheels are used and IMO the 14" get alot better traction due to less sidewall flex and corne alot better, but thats just my opinion

12" are better for mud as they would generally offer more floation, 14" are generally better for trail riding for the reasons above (handling, response, less potential for damage, etc.)

14's offer less wheel protection as there is less rubber to protect the wheel.  A buddy of mine had 14's on his Brute Force.  He commented several times about regretting buying 14's because his wheels took a beating on the rocks.  We ride very rough rocky terrain.

i like my 14's.  not only does it handle great,  which is a good thing as big as the sportsman is.  but they look awsome
