in my agreement with my local dealer, i took it to them today for the first service. We discussed this for warrenty issues as i prefer to do most service myself, to insure it IS done, and i can save the reciepts to show them if i have issues down the road. Now to my question, what should they do? I asked if they were going to adjust the valves, and was assured they would check them. HMMM..... check them how? i hope not by running the motor............NAW bob, i dont hear 'em, so they ok!! i had an after thought that i shoulda marked the bolt heads or something so that i would know if they removed them. not that i dont trust them, i just dont want to pay for service i didnt recieve. is there any other way to tell if they adjusted the valves??
On a side note, my wife talked to my salesman, and i am supposed to get this service free. yes FREE!!! first day i got home with it (NEW), it went into limp mode a mile into a ride. the rad. fan wasnt plugged up!

they change the oil check the valves and a bunch of other little stuff. look in the back of your owners manual and all that service stuff is in there. it just shows a graph with the hours and miles intervals in it.

I'm wondering the same thing. Is this first service worth the $300-400. I can change the fluids for cheap. Sounds like nothing more than a high priced oil change if u ask me. Do they really inspect "everything"? Any thoughts.

they dont really do a whole lot but the first service is what they say registers the bike in the computer for warranty issues. kind of like if you bring it in for some warranty work and didnt do the 10 hour service thru brp they have more leverage against you because the 10 hour service was not done thru them.

around $8300 otd.

so i got it back from the dealer.... $400 for the service. they claim they adjusted the valves, well now i hear a rattle. I am not so sure they needed to make them do that!!!! I kinda liked it when they DIDN'T chatter!

I found out very quickly that where you buy th bike is not necesseraly the best place to have it serviced.

After the 10 hour run. I got a nice Oil change and a filter for $169 cdn. They also changd the reset button above the speedometer that was recalled for free.

After reading my manual correctly thre's a whole lot they should have done on my 650 besides changing the engine oil. The gearbox oil should have been changed also but they didn't do it.
That's why I purchased the BRP mechanic manual which I am scheduled to receive sometimes this week.

Word to the wise, if your not going to do the work yourself, talk to people on the trails and ask them where they get their BRP bikes serviced and ask if they are satisfied. That's what I did and I found a great place that has 40 years of experience and a great reputation in Laval quebec.

Good luck

Wow ,Your dealers sure see ya comin'...Tha's a lot of money for just a routine tune -up.
Another good reason for doing it yourself I guess.

Well this was more like preventive maintenance but most of the things he did is stated in the manual. The spark plugs were good for 2 years....I hope you were standing next to your bike when they did the work.

I always insist on being next to the mechanic when I take my car or bike in for repairs. If the dealer refuses, I tell him I'll go somewhere else and I am ready to sign a discharge form for his Insurance company ( in case I get hurt in the Garage)
Most garages have those forms. If he refuses..DONT TRUST that garage.

Leaving your ATV alone with a stranger is like sending your child at Neverland.!

I had my dealer do my 10 hour service also, in the back of  your manual that came with your ATV there is a page that you can get the tech to sign his name and date, when I approached them about it they told me that they had never had anybody do this before but had no problem signing it.If it makes you feel more comfortable letting them do it and you have the extra money then do it.This is my first canam so I figured why not.
