My nephew bought a new 08 Grizzly 550, has rode it about 3 weeks and drowned it!!... Hew knew enough to not drive it back to the trailer, engine, air box, fuel tank all full of water. Everything was drained, cleaned put back together. Disassembled and cleaned out all the crud in the belt drive. Fired the bike up, sounds and looks ok. Drove it and noticed that its banging out at approx. 20 mph in high gear. Put the bike in neutral and pinned the throttle, and it bangs out before full RPM.
Does the F.I. use a manifold pressure sensor? I unplugged the small vacuum line on the R.H. side of the throttle body and it seems to rev higher. whether the line is unplugged or not, when you rev the engine, it picks up fuel smoke and bangs out. Theres no smoke idling or at part throttle and the engine sounds great. What is the sensor that I unplugged?
Any help would be greeatly appreciated. I'm trying to fix it for him so he doesn't have to take it to the dealership.

Ouch...reason #764 as to why I need to snorkel my Big Bear as soon as possible.  Since the 550 and 700 are basically the same setup, I'm sure there are some 700 grizz folks on here that can help you out.  I would be inclined to say that one or several of the connectors may still have water in them, causing either a ground or short.  I'm not very familiar with the FI quads, but did have a buddy whose LTR 450 had a rollover switch in it that went bad and was causing his bike to run weird.  I'd start with disconnecting and drying/cleaning every electrical connection I could find.  Hopefully one of the big grizz guys will chime in soon...

It sounds like your primary is still full of mud and crud, take the cover off and spray the water directly into your primary to get all the mud out. You will know right away when you get the cover off and crank it up hit the throttle and your primary wont close but half way if that.

Thats exactly what it was... I had given up on searching for any help and started pulling plastic. Pulled the clutch cover and and the primary was full to the cage with mud. Had to chisel my way in to the nut, and pulled both primary and secondary clutch assemblies out. Soaked them in water for 2 days, then power washed them to get them apart. Then had to bead blast everything to get all the corrosion off of it.
Thats the first Yamaha CVT i've worked on, doesnt seem to be alot of adjustablilty in it????..... How do you change the helix angles in the secondary?

lol i like honda too but when you drownd a quad out you could have problems. oddly enough though my friends sister tried to run her 420 rancher through handlebar deep water and after a oil change its still running great.

and what do you mean by "banging out"? i dont understand that part. i would flush the oil many times use 10-40  rotella its probably cheapest oil you will find to flush with.

first off sorry for my prev statement not tryin to be rude yamahas are really great machines its just ive never seen any other machine but a honda survive a drowning like that. if you ever flood it again try this get you 3 quarts of deisel and pour it in your oil hole after you drain it and put your plug back in DONT START IT when you do but shake it around real good, drain it
, and change the oil about 3 more times and it should help. changin the oil a bunch is a good thing when you flood a bike but regular oil can only get so much water out the deisel helps displace the water.

Its not a grab and go belt drive.

More of a variable speed pulley set up.

No helix.

You can change the secondary spring, weights in the primary, or springs in the wet clutch behind the primary.
