what its doing: its busting up at low rpms. like its running out of gas. but if you can get past this it will run wide open to a max speed of 67 mph. so one night i run the crap out of it thinking i got bad gas/water in the tank (after draining the tank and refilling) i let my bother-in-law run it down the road. he comes back and i see the exhaust pipe is glowing red. i have cleaning the carbs, put fresh gas in, changed the plugs. can the valve lash be doing this? this is the only other thing i can think of. i got it used and the maintenance on the brute is unknown. so dunno if the valve lash has ever been done. brute has 1600 miles on it.

please help.

when i say busting up. i would say between 5% to 10% throttle its like someone turns the key off and then when you release the throttle it goes back to running.

errr.  sorry for double post. hit reply instead of edit.

ill check the plugs but the bike was running fine and then out of the blue this started. so something had to changed some where on its own. s/1 on a diff forum said the diaphrams working the sliders may be the cause. ill check them closer.

i didnt notice the glowing pipes till we ran it at night. is hes doing the same? PLEASE, if you find out the problem let me know. ill do the same. it is weird. when you first start it will act like it runs fine, besides the cold nature of the brute. then after its fully warmed it seems to start.

When you pull the choke out does it get better or worse?

Headers are going to glow at night.... that isn't instantly a sign of it being lean and besides that his problem is right off idle.

Stock exhaust or aftermarket? Make sure the stock exhaust isn't clogged up... will hold a lot of heat.
