I noticed the other day there is a bit of play in the front end. I think its the wheel bearings. How do you tighten them? Thanks.

How much play is acceptable? I only have 4000 miles would this be normal wear? Thanks.

I was thinking the same exact thing, lol. I'll be tickeled pink if I even get 4000 miles out of my WHOLE bike.

Sounds like you guys ride them pretty rough to only expect 4000 miles. Mines been on mostly smooth roads on the place i ride. It's  higher speeds that's why so many miles.

Checked the bike on the stand and it is the wheel bearings that are loose. The left side moves back and forth about 1/16"  at the rim to strut location, the othes side is just noticable. Do they need to be replaced?

If you let them get real bad, it will eventually rub the speedo sensor and ruin it...........................

Also If the bearing ever seizes it will spin in the strut damaging it. Then you either have to take it to a machine shop to have oversized bearings put in or replace the strut.

Thanks for the replys. Does it seem with that amount of play the bearings need to be replaced?. Is it a common maintainence item?

This is a common maintenance replacement.  I would go ahead and take care of it now while there is no damage done.  Like the other guys have stated, you don't want to let them get bad.  Once they start going out, they usually go quickly.

So just buy bearings, or do the races need to be done also? Is it like an automotive type replacement?

Duh....I see that it's an 06 model.  You will just need the bearings, about $65 each.

Local autoparts store. Ferderal Mogal # 510014 for the front 510013 for the rear.

Most stores have the rear in stock. The front you'll most likely have to order.

Just these last few questions. Bye the way thanks for the help. Any preference on bearing brands? I found BCA, and Timken so far? Also does the bearing come right out after removing the snap ring or must it be punched out from the CV side.

Not sure on the brands, but it will need to be punched out or pressed out.

i used all balls. got them all for 100 bucks. ya the bearing will have to be pressed or punched out from the cv side. you might as well replace them now before they go out and damage something.

Got the bad front bearing replaced yesterday and it solved the problem. Took about 2 hours but the rest will go faster now Ive done one.

All Balls Bearings couldn't sell to me because I'm not a shop. Went thru Bike Bandit, which had a Moose kit, which was labled ABB. Same price too. Go figure. Timken is the brand on the fronts bye the way. Tks again.
