My bike has a pinhole leak on the front cylinder coolant line. Its the hard line where it goes into the head. Anyone have problems like this? Or know of a cheap fix?

I'm sure I could put some soft line over it and clamp it down...but searching for a better way. And its at my dads house and he's the one that told me about it, so Im just going off what he said. I'm in an apartment now so I keep it at his place 40 min's away.

Anyone got some ideas?

If you were closer, I would give you one.  Probably be easier to take it off and weld it.  Sure it's not the o-ring?

not sure. he said it was a small hole. said there was another line that was close to it. but didn't look like it would've rubbed it through like that. he said as soon as it warmed up it spit water/coolant everywhere.  is it aluminum or steel? have you had this happen 8up?

It's steel.  I've never had that problem, nor have I heard of it.  Even on the Brutes.  But I have never ran anything but extended life coolant in mine.  I did have a coolant leak on the little white plastic "bulb" between the carbs.  All it does is heat the carbs to prevent any water in the bowls from freezing.  Not much risk of that happening down here, so I just bypassed the carbs.

yeah, same here. Actually, it always had a small leak and never could chase it down. So I just put water in the overflow bottle and never had problems. Then that small leak seemed to have sealed up. Past 10-15 times I've taken it out, it hasn't needed any water. But, now I guess would be a good time to put some good coolant in it and seal up the leaks...

well, tore into tonight to get the part out...

not a very good pic, but you can see the line above the steel one that MAY have rubbed the hole...

my other though was, it could have made the hole from the inside out...

and the hole from which it came...

soo...
1. Purchase a new part online/local dealer
2. Braze/weld it.
3. Purchase a longer hose to cover it up

which should I do??

Babbit's has it listed for $16.86.  I gues it depends on when you want to ride next.  As thin and corroded as it is, brazing or welding would fix it there, but what about the next spot that is thin?  I would put a longer hose on it until the new pipe came in.

yeah, it's $16.96 at countrycat. I'm gonna check with my dealer tomorrow and go from there. Hopefully they wont gouge me too bad, IF they have one. Otherwise I might have to go the hose route. Sposed to be riding Sunday, so...

hey, 8up. got a longer hose and put a hose clamp before(stock) and after the hole. did great. now, it sounds like the belts slappin around in there.

even in neutral when revved up it sounds like nuts and bolts rattling around, but it did that just once and only for a second. then got on it, took it around the yard and when I stab into it, I get the same noise. like my belt might be shredded.

there were some belt shaving caked by my stock belt exhaust snorkel, but I just replaced this belt earlier this summer(dealer job).

haven't been real ruff on it, but my step sis and her boyfriend took it out last and thats when the coolant line blew up. I'm gonna take the belt cover off and check it out, but its at my friends house, so hit me back asap and lemme know if you think that could be it...

yup, belt was shredded. 17 ribs were ripped of the top and there was a small tear on the inside of the belt. my step sis or her bf one musta got stuck and tried to back out. I have another belt and gonna ask the local dealer tomorrow if I can borrow their pulley tool. need to shim it also.

got a question, currently the belt is riding on the shaft with maybe? 1/4" space between the belt and face of the pulley. Need to shim, correct?

I don't think you can change the clearance on the primary.  Because that closes when the weights come out.  But as a rule of thumb, when I put the belt on the secondary I like to see about half of the depth of the ribs on the back side of the belt above the secondary pulley.  That's with the pulley off the bike.  If the belt rides deeper in the pulley than that, you will usually have to pull a shim.  If it rides higher, pull a shim.  Does that make since?

GOT 'ER DUN!! wooo hooo. she squeals like a PIG!!! I took out both shims because my deflection was like an inch and a half or 1 3/4". now it's spot on at 7/8(23mm). You have to hold the brake while in gear or it will roll. Will all this simmer down after a few good rides? Or is it TOO tight? Alot of work to tear back down to put in a shim...
